Natural Skin Care Preparation

To choose the right skin care preparations you will need to determine you skin type: 
  • Normal skin is rosy, lustrous, unblemished, smooth, evenly colored, soft, firm and elastic. Due to bad diet, pollution, stress and improper skin care, this type is rare.
  • Dry skin feels tight, it is thin, pale and dull. It may be flaky and very wrinkled. It is rarely blemished.
  • Oily skin is shining and often blemished. The skin is soft and elastic and there are not many wrinkles.
  • Sensitive skin is easily irritated. It is prone to redness, itch and blemishes. Often reacts to chemical ingredients, pollution, sun, wind.
You may notice that your T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) is different from your cheeks. This is called combination skin. Also skin can be sensitive and oily or dry at the same time.  
 

 

Soaps and Cleansers

Eye make-up removers - use pure vegetable oil, vitamin E oil or ghee on a cotton ball and wipe gently.
 

Toners and Lotions

Preparation - Use distilled, natural mineral or boiled and cooled water. Toner #1 - mix one and a half cup of water with 1 teaspoon of apple vinegar Toner #2 - In 100 ml of water add 4 drops of essential oils.  
Application - Apply after cleansing, while skin is still wet. Shake the bottle well before use. Put some toner on a cotton wool ball at wipe gently your face and neck. 
 
Use two of the following essential oils:  
for oily to normal skin: lavender, lemon, bergamot, geranium, sage 
for dray to normal skin: ylang-ylang, rose, bois de rose, jasmine, honey, neroli 
for sensitive skin: chamomile, honey, rose, sandalwood, geranium 
 
 Nourishing emulsions - mix 30 ml of pure vegetable oil and 20 drops of essential oils. Store in a dark glass bottle with a dropper. Use it after cleansing, while skin is still wet: in the palm of your hand, mix 2-3 drops of this nourishing oil and 4-6 drops of water or liposomes (for aging skin). Apply to face and massage gently. Follow with a moisturizer. 
 

Moisturizers

Preparation - Melt 28g of cocoa butter in double broiler. Add 90 ml of natural vegetable oil. Remove from heat. Using a dropper, add 60 ml of herbal tea, one drop at a time, while stirring the mixture. When it is cool, add 5-6 drops of aromatherapy oils. 
Application - Use after toning. Apply a very small amount over face and neck and around the eyes. Wait at least a couple of minutes before applying makeup. 

Recommended ingredients: 
Oily to normal skin 
vegetable oils: almond or jojoba oil  
herbal tea: rosemary or basil tea   
aromatherapy mixtures: 1 drop of camphor, 2 drops bergamot and 3 drops lavender oil; 
2 drops each geranium and lavender oil and 1 drop each lemon and bergamot oil; 
Dry to normal skin 
vegetable oils: avocado or wheat germ oil  
herbal tea: orange or rose tea  
aromatherapy mixtures: 2 drops geranium and 3 drops rose oil; 
3 drops geranium and 1 drop each honey and jasmine oil; 
1 drop chamomile and 4 drops lavender oil 
Sensitive skin 
vegetable oils: sunflower oil  
herbal tea: rose or chamomile tea  
aromatherapy mixtures: 5 drops of sandalwood oil;  
2 drops each sandalwood and chamomile + 1 drop honey oil; 
3 drops chamomile, 2 drops rose and 1 drop geranium 
1 drop rose and 3 drops sandalwood; 
Aging skin 
vegetable oils: avocado or vitamin E oil 
herbal tea: orange or rose tea 
aromatherapy mixtures: 3 drops each rose and myrrh; 
1 drop vetiver, 2 drops sandalwood and 3 drops geranium; 
3 drops orange, 2 drops neroli and 1 drop frankincense 
 

Scrub Creams

Use scrub creams or exfoliants once a week (not the same day as masks) to remove the layer of dead cells and thus promote skin revitalization. Apply after cleansing and before toning and moisturizing. 

Preparation - mix 2 part oatmeal and 1 part dry milk. Add: 
for oily to normal skin: 2 parts ground lemon peel 
for dry to normal skin: a pinch of sugar 
for sensitive skin: 1 part ground orange peel 
or simply mix equal parts of oatmeal and dry milk. 
Store in a jar. 
Application - Make a paste using about 1/4 teaspoon of the mixture and warm water. Apply on face and neck and gently massage for about 1 minute. Rinse with warm (not hot) water. For sensitive and/or very dry skin use cool (not cold) water. 

Salt scrub for normal skin - mix 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of sour cream.

 

Masks

Apply masks once a week (not the same day you use the scrub cream) after cleansing and before toning and moisturizing. Sometimes you can add in a small facial: steam your face with herbs before applying the mask. 
Oily to normal skin

Fruit mask: apply strawberry or papaya pulp to face and neck. After 10-15 minutes rinse with water. 
Yogurt mask: mash 1 ripe tomato and mix with 2 teaspoons of yogurt. Rinse with water after 10 minutes. 
Cryotherapy mask: beat one egg white and add one tablespoon of honey and a little glycerin. Mix in some oatmeal to make it creamy. Keep it on your face for 20 minutes. Wipe off with cooled chamomile tea. Wipe your face with an ice cube. 
Clay mask: mix 3 tablespons clay with one cup worm water; apply to face and leave until clay starts to harden; wash of with warm water.

Dry to normal skin

Fruit mask: apply banana or avocado pulp to face and neck. After 10-15 minutes rinse with water. or: mix the pulp of half avocado, 1 egg yolk and a drop of lemon juice, aply to face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water. 
Cryotherapy mask: mix one egg yolk, one tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of glycerin to get a smooth mixture. Add one teaspoon of olive oil. Keep it on your face for 20 minutes. Wipe off with cooled chamomile tea. Wipe your face with an ice cube. 
Honey mask: mix one egg yolk, a few teaspoons honey, one orange's juice and a few drops each almond oil and lemon juice. Apply to face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water. Use once a month. 

Sensitive skin

Fruit mask: apply banana or pineapple pulp to face and neck. After 10-15 minutes rinse with water. 
Honey mask: mix one teaspoon of honey, one egg yolk, few drops of lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, until you get a smooth mixture. Keep on your face for 20-30 minutes, then rinse with cool chamomile tea. 

Treatments for wrinkles

Carrot mask: mix equal parts of honey, powdered milk and fresh grated carrot. Keep on face for 30 minutes. Rinse with water. 
Fruit mask: cut a melon or orange into thin wedges and put on your face. Leave for 5-15 minutes, than remove and rinse face with tepid water.
Oatmeal mask: mix 100g of outmeal, juice of one lemon and one egg yolk. Apply to face and leave for 5-15 minutes, than rinse with tepid water.
Agar-agar mask: mix one teaspoon of honey, a pinch of agar-agar powder and 1 egg yolk. Apply to face and leave for 5-15 minutes, than rinse with tepid water.
Flour mask: mix 2 tablespoons of wheat flour and 1 tablespoon yougurt. Apply to face and leave for 5-15 minutes, than rinse with tepid water.
Honey mask: mix one teaspoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice and one drop of almond oil. Apply to face, leave for 20 minutes and rinse with tepid water. Use once every 10 days. 
Creamy mask: melt in a double boiler 30 g of bee wax, add 30 g each -  honey, juice of lilly leaves and onion juice. Mix with a wooden spoon until it's smooth. Apply to face and neck and massage into skin, apply another layer and leave for 20-30 minutes. Soak a cotton wool ball in elder tea and wipe of the cream. 
Aromatherapy mask: mix 2 tablespoons of green clay powder, 1 tablespoon avocado oil, 2 tablespoons natural mineral water, 2 drops sandalwood oil, 1 drop geranium oil and 1 drop frankincense oil. Apply to face and after 10-15 minutes rinse with tepid water. 
Eye wrinkle treatment: mix 2 tablespoons of corn flour with a little rose water and heat it and mix well. Leave it to cool. Put this gel around the eyes and leave it for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. 

Alpha-Hydroxy-Acid (AHA) treatment

Alpha-hidroxy-acids are the acids found in milk, lemon, apple. They clean, condition, protect and moisturize the skin and reduce the danger of infection. Preparations containing these acids make the skin softer and smoother, by gradually removing the layers of dead cells without irritating the skin. AHA mask: mix 1 teaspoon of oatmeal, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, 1/2 grated apple and 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Apply to face and rinse after 15-20 minutes. 

Treatments for blemished skin

Aromatherapy mask: mix 3 tablespoons of green clay powder with enough destined water to make a creamy smooth mixture. Add one drop each bergamot, lavender, chamomile and thyme oil. Apply to face and let it dry. Rinse with tepid water. 
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) treatment: make juice from dandelion herb and root (best in spring, when the plant is juicy). Spread the juice on blemished skin (acne, pimples, rough skin etc.) 
 

Herbs for Steaming

Occasionally before putting on the mask, you'll want to steam your face. This will open pores, cleans face and allow the nourishment in the mask to penetrate deeper into the skin.
Prepare herb tea in a large pan/pot. Place your head over the pan and cover it with a cotton towel. Steam your face for about 5-10 minutes.
Use the following herbs:
  • For oily to normal skin: lavender flowers, lemon peel, mint leaves, lemon grass or sage
  • For dry to normal skin: rose petals, jasmine flowers, violet or chamomile
  • For sensitive skin: chamomile flowers or rose petals
